Scam call centers in Albania no longer operate in an amateur way, but according to the algorithms and calculations of organized crime.
Eurojust and the Albanian police were unanimous in this conclusion after their joint investigation in wich 15 call centers were suddenly checked and closed, 6 located in Albania, 5 in Georgia, 3 in Ukraine and 1 in North Macedonia.
Hundreds of European citizens have been defrauded from these constantly moving points, and it is estimated that the damage caused by computer fraud is about 50 million euros every three months.
As in other instances, fraudsters have used the same scheme, that of trap phone calls inviting and convincing citizens from Austria, Germany, Spain and Finland to invest in cryptocurrency or stock markets. In the operation conducted 5 people were arrested, four in Albania and 1 in Georgia.
Eurojust stated that 500 electronic devices were seized, and more than 340 thousand euros as well as electronic cryptocurrency wallets.
The prosecution in Albania has failed in the last four years to deliver to the court any files or any accused of money laundering coming from this crime field.
