The Chinese foreign Minister, Yang Jiechi, during the second day of his
official visit in Tirana, met with Albania’s main political leaders,
confirming the excellent relations between the two countries that are
geographically far, but with strong relations that date from a long
time ago.
The Albanian President, Bamir Topi emphasized this fact by saying that this high-rank visit is another significant indicator of the traditional relations and the close cooperation between China and Albania.
The Albanian President, the Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, have welcomed Chinese investments in Albania, especially in energy, infrastructure, industrial parks and tourism.
During the meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister, the Parliament Speaker declared that “the excellent political relations should be translated in a stronger economic cooperation and that the Strategic Partnership Agreement is a real base of cooperation, same as the agreements for removing taxes and protecting investments.” The Parliament Speaker expressed her pleasure for the fact that the progress of the economic exchanges with China, a leading country in the world economy, has a positive tendency that should be consolidated.
The Albanian Prime Minister pushed this idea even further, by promising that the Albanian government will create all necessary facilities for turning these relations in real success stories. By emphasizing Albania’s favorable geographical position, Berisha expressed his readiness in supporting the creation of a tax-free area for Chinese investments. He also encouraged investments in port infrastructures.
The Chinese Foreign Minister, by showing reciprocity on this matter, declared that the Chinese government will also create easier conditions for the Albanian goods in their market. He declared that they will encourage most reputed Chinese companies to make a good use of the potentials offered by the Albanian economy. Minister Jiechi declared that the officials of both countries should study all development projects and financial opportunities. He also showed interest in the creation of a tax-free area for the Chinese investments.
During this meeting, the Albanian Prime Minister discussed about the situation in the region and the latest developments in Kosovo. Berisha supported the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia as the best way for solving the problems between the two countries.
He declared that the relations in this region should be characterized by a free economic and trade exchange, without any barrier. On the other hand, the Prime Minister underlined that the root of the latest developments in Kosovo is the many-year old embargo set by Serbia against Kosovo goods. Berisha supported Kosovo’s attempts for implementing the Constitution and the rule of law in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo, and encouraged the dialogue between both countries. The Albanian Prime Minister asked Minister Jiechi to advise his government to take in consideration the recognition of Kosovo independence, as the most righteous decision that contributes to peace and stability in the region.
