Albania took over today the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of Europe, with a special and festive ceremony.

For the first time after 17 years of membership, Albania will lead the Committee of Ministers of 47 member countries, a step that marks the growth of Albania’s image in Europe, and its prestige for leading international organizations of this proportion.

Symbolically, the British Secretary William Hague handed over to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmond Haxhinasto, the key of the next Presidency.

The ceremony was preceded by a regular meeting of the Committee of Ministers, the last led by Great Britain, in which was discussed about the policies of the Council of Europe towards the neighboring countries and its contribution towards these new democracies.
