Top Channel has learned from diplomatic sources in Athens that the new maritime border agreement foresees the division of the maritime border based on the equidistance principle.
In the distance between both countries, which is 1.8 miles, 0.6 go to Albania, 0.6 to Greece, 0.6 are considered international waters.
In other parts will be applied the equidistance principle as well, based on the International Law of the Sea Convention.
As for the increase of the Greek territory with 12 miles, as declared by the Greek Foreign Minister, that will be valid for Albania as well.
As for the economic exclusivity, Albania will receive the Joni 1 and Joni 2 blocks, which would have gone to Greece with the maritime border agreement of 2009.
