Greece and Albania have reached an agreement to have a joint border mission to prevent the influx of migrants and trafficking in drugs or illegal goods across the countries.
The parties have agreed to have a joint center where Albanian and Greek staff will work together, which will be located on the Greek side territory. The center is expected to come into function in about a month’s time. In addition to the European agency Frontex, there will be increased border controls by both parties, both Greek and Albanian.
In accordance with national legislation, the authorities will cooperate in joint assessment and analysis, assistance and coordination of activities, cooperation with other centers for police and customs cooperation, and the exchange of information will take place in the areas of illegal immigration.
