In average, five couples a day ask divorce to the Court of Tirana, and
in the first half of 2012 there have been 600 divorces more than in
2011.

“Cheating is most of the causes. In many cases, both spouses agree to complete the divorce without delays”, says Bujana Tancica, Spokesperson of the Tirana Court.

According to the Ministry of Justice statistic, the number of divorces has increased throughout the country. In 70 of the cases, the request is made by the husbands, which makes the ministry to try and find the reasons behind this phenomenon.

The city with most divorce request is Tirana, with 1631 cases each year, followed by Elbasan with 594 and Durres with 566.

The lowest number comes from Puke, with 20 cases per year, Tropoje with 40 and Kukes with 49.

During 2011 there have been more women who have asked divorce, according to Edlira Bako, inspector at the Ministry of Justice.

The rural areas have less number of divorces, since the life for divorced women is much more difficult in those areas.

“We have had three cases last year where husbands have filed for divorce because their wives spent too much time on Facebook. Last year we even had a 85-year-old couple.
