Alarming figures show that birthrates equaled death rates

The institution of statistics reported that the number of births in the first trimester of this year was almost equal with that of deaths, making the natural population increase almost zero.

5986 children were born from January to March of this year, and 5949 people died. The difference is only 37 persons. If emigration is taken into account, Albania’s population will keep decreasing.

The government has introduced a new law that offers 40.000 Albanian Lek to families having their first born child; 80.000 for the second; 120.000 for the third.
