Agriculture abandoned by banks

Low credit in agriculture makes the farmers’ work more difficult by not allowing them to make investments in this sector.

According to the Bank of Albania, 2012 ended with a 56 million USD credit portfolio, or 1.5% of the loans given in total for the economy, which is 4 billion USD.

“This is not enough. The reason is that agriculture has a slower investment growth in summer, in comparison to the other sectors”, declared Ndoc Faslia, Minister of Agriculture.

But if we compare this year with 2010, there’s a growth at the second level of banks for the crediting of agriculture and agro-industry.

“The agricultural sector has increased with 40% in the last three years”, Faslia declared.

These loans focus on the construction of new orchards, green houses, purchase of agricultural vehicles, the construction of refrigerator rooms for preserving production, and the establishment of processing plants for agricultural and farming foods.
