The accreditation of higher education institutions in Albania will be up to one of the most prestigious agencies in this area.
This is about the British Agency of Quality Certification, which certifies higher education institutions even in the UK.
The Albanian government signed an agreement with this agency, with the participation of agency representatives, PM Rama, Education Minister Lindita Nikolla and the British Ambassador to Tirana, Nicholas Cannon.
Rama quoted the former British PM, Gordon Brown, for the need of a quality education in Albania.
“Education is the best economic policy and we have taken the reform in consideration as a necessity which the former governments had avoided with huge consequences for the new generation”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister referred to numbers to explain the situation of the higher education in Albania.
“We had the highest number of universities in Europe. 20 universities for 1 million residents. We had a system that gave 32.000 diplomas only from the private sector, half of which from only one university, which took 148 million EUR from Albanian parents and gave 900 diplomas for foreigners even without having a single subject in a foreign language. It is difficult to believe that those 900 foreigners knew Albanian”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister added that the British agency will offer a quality evaluation for all institutions, private and public ones too.
The British Ambassador said in Albanian that he is happy that this agency was chosen. He expressed his support to the company in question.
