International companies who left Northern African and Asian countries
due to civil conflicts are creating a favorable climate for the clothing
industry in Albania, which is the main export of our country.
“This year has seen increases in exports and offers from foreign investors”, says Flamur Hoxha from the Chamber of Commerce for Clothing Industry.
Gjergji Dika from the “Façonist Chamber” says that exports had increased after Albanian goods improved in quality, but it is also due to the recent events in Northern Africa and Asia.
“Our European Partners are starting to see Albania as an alternative”, Gjika said.
In the first four months of the year, textile and shoe exports were considerably increased; according to Institute of Statistics, with 19%. Entrepreneurs for this industry say that this period might define the future of the Albanian clothing industry.
“If there will be increases, I think that we can create solid foundations for some years in the future”, Hoxha declared.
But for turning this climate in our advantage, Albanian businessmen must learn from foreign experiences. Gjergj Gjika says that the industry must try concentrated production, in order to create advantages.
“We must offer to well known production lines an integrated “Made in Albania” product, which starts with shoes and ends with clothes”, says Gjika.
But this industry does not have the financial power to concentrate the production.
“We have requested negotiations with the government and donators, for establishing a center of integrated offer”, Gjika says.
Last year, textile and shoe exports were 565 million ALL, leading the export list with 35% of the total sum.
