“Seseri” stalemate resolved

The Parliament will vote this Thursday the new member of the High
Council of Justice, but they will also vote another important decision
that is expected to resolve the legal stalemate for the Socialist
Parliament seat that was abandoned by Rudina Seseri.

The council of mandates decided to live it up to the plenary session and not the council to notify the Central Election Commission for the vacant place.

The Socialists resisted to the legal modality proposed by the Democrats, who asked the case to be closed with a request of the Council of Mandates to CEC, and not with a decision of all MPs.

Although the tones were not that consensual, the parties reached a compromise. The Socialist member of the Council of Mandates, Kastriot Islami, declared that they will discuss another important point, proposed by Parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli, in order for the Parliament to avoid a similar situation in the future.

“It was decided for this case to be resolved in a session, in a common sense and in full functionality, so that this political situation will not be repeated. One of the points that should be present at the electoral reform, is that the candidate on the list should have the opportunity to withdraw when he runs for a local post”, Islami declared.

The Council of Mandates will express this opinion in Parliament, through a consensual report that is being processed by the democrat Viktor Gumi and the Socialist Damian Gjiknuri.

The “Seseri” case turned into a political battle between the bigger political parties, which launched a series of accusations against each other.

Prime Minister Berisha accused the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, of trying to find new pretexts for blocking the reforms and that he intentionally surpassed the deadlines, in order to address the Court of Appeal.

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, considered Berisha’s declarations an absurdity and accused the Prime Minister of trying to start new conflicts.
