“A solution for Kosovo like the Spanish Catalonia” was the proposition
made by the head of the International Civil Office in Prishtina, Peter
Faith, during an interview for “Observer” this Friday.
The reactions of the Constitutional experts in Kosovo were immediate, especially when such a proposition comes from the person who observes the implementation of the Ahtisari plan, and when Northern Kosovo is facing tensions.
The university professor Mazllum Baraliu declared that this position of Peter Faith is in favor of Serbia, not well thought and in contradiction with the EU countries that recognize Kosovo borders.
While he considers “strange” the idea of Peter Faith, the professor even asks him to apologize with the Kosovo citizens. Baraliu doesn’t find any similarity between the Spanish Catalonia and the Northern Kosovo.
“That gentleman and any other has no right to compare Catalonia with Northern Kosovo, because Catalonia is a federal part of Spain, and has a very specific subjectivity within Spain. Comparing Kosovo with Catalonia is unacceptable, because there is nothing similar”, Baraliu declared.
The government has not given an official reaction for the position of the International Civil Office, Peter Faith.
But during a phone conversation, the Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuci declared that the Ahtisari Package is more than sufficient and has shown that where it has been implemented, it has been integrative for the minorities.
