Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The winning project for the Tirana boulevard expansion is that of the British studio “Grimshaw Architects”.
The Mayor of Tirana declared the winner by asking to have the detailed technical project within the year, while the institutions will start working for starting the cosntructions, with the displacement of the Train Station and the Power Substation.
“After a detailed discussion we decided that the project that best incarnates the aspirations of the Tirana citizens for an European modern city, for a better quality of life and bigger opportunities in economy, well being and employment, is the one presented by the Grimshaw Architects”, Basha declared.
Grimshaw has projected a 60 meters wide boulevard with three main squares, but different to the other studios, Grimshaw has not presented the cost. According to Basha, the studios have been asked an average 100-130 Euros per square meter. The Grimshaw representative explains the project with more details.
“The expansion of the boulevard is breaking very formal elements, with a series of what we call living urban areas. There will be one square for shopping and entertainment, there will be a cinema complex, big supermarkets and small shops that create a single core. A more formal area for the justice, where will be the Palace of Justice, and then we will have the municipal square, and another one for art and culture, where we hope to have new buildings for art and culture that the city will decide to invest to”, declared Never Sidor, representative of the studio.
A priority of this studio will be the construction of multiple-storey parking areas.
