Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future More than one year before the next Parliamentary elections, the former persecuted people have turned into an electoral argument.
Within one day, two associations of the persecuted people have issued declarations, one attacking the government and one the opposition. Initially, the Association of the former Politically Prisoners called the government “an anti-national thief”, and filed seven requests to the Ombudsman: within 2 years, the former persecuted people must be compensated with money or with 10% of the assets built with their work during communism. The former persecuted demanded concessions from the mines where they have worked, in Spac, Gurth, Qafe Bari, etc. They demand political representation in the institutions and recognition of the political status for the former persecuted people, a special pension for all persecute people, opened files and an apology from all state leaders since 1992 and after, for being incapable and irresponsible in the last 20 years towards the former persecuted people”.
Former Anticommunist Persecuted People: SP to apologize
After this letter was distributed through e-mail to all media outlets, the Former Anticommunist and Democratic Persecuted People Association presented their request, but this time for the opposition. Without mentioning the concrete request of the opposition for reducing the compensation age from 85 to 75 years old, the representative of this association, Lili Ndozi, asked:
“If the Party of Enver Hoxha has really reflected, they must apologize, first of all, and secondly they must release the houses that have been robbed to the former owners in 1945, and tell where they have buried the thousands of Albanians whose bodies have not been found, and if they want to contribute in teh compensation scheme, Kristaq and his friends must include in the scheme the asset seizing of those who have caused the damage, meaning: Fehmi Abdiu, Gramoz Ruci, Xhelil Gjoni, Hamit Beqe, Kristaq Rama, etc.”
The representative of the Former Anticommunist and Democratic Persecuted People Association concluded the speech by saying that the persecuted people will not support the Socialist Party.
