Albania’s newly appointed Prosecutor General, Adriatic Llalla, declared
on Top Channel’s “Top Story” with journalist Sokol Balla that his
priorities are the renewal of the Prosecution and fight against
corruption.

He also gave his opinion on some key issues that the Albanian Prosecution is facing today.

The General Prosecutor criticized the previous work of this institution, mentioning cases when he, as leader of the High Institution of Declaration and Audit of Assets had reported concrete law violations and conflict of interest cases that had been rejected. He said that he would see this as a priority and high rank officials would be investigated, including judges.

“We receive dozens and hundreds of citizen reports each day, who raise suspicions on different issues. We started the investigations based on phone calls and information coming from citizens”, Llalla declared.

When asked by Sokol Balla about the rank of officials that have been reported, Llalla declared that they have cases of high rank officials who are under investigations and their names might be public in the near future.

One of the main issues is the January 21st investigation. Lalla declared that the Prosecutors for this case have not changed, but soon the Prosecution will find whoever is responsible for Aleks Nika’s death, who was killed during the January 21st incidents.

“Investigations are undergoing, and certainly it is reserved information. We might find the person who shot Nika. The Prosecution has several thorough investigations, using the best forensic labs, including the American FBI. We are waiting for the results so that we can find the author of this crime.”

When asked if the organizers of that protest would be prosecuted, the Prosecutor declared that this crime benefited from the amnesty, but they will start investigating if they have new facts.

“As for the organization of this illegal protest, the Albanian Parliament included it in the amnesty. We cannot open investigations, because it benefited from the amnesty”, Lalla declared.

The Prosecutor added that they are investigating a corruption case regarding chrome mines, as reported by Top Channel’s program, “Fiks Fare”.
