The protest of the Bulqize miners almost deteriorated in a serious
incident. The ACR representative found himself near an irritated crowd
of miners, right after leaving the conference room where he had just
released a press communication. The crowd obliged him to turn back
inside the building.
A few moments before this incident, the ACR Company representative in Tirana declared that they were ready to sit and talk with the miners that, according to him, were not being allowed by the syndications to start the negotiations. George Bedineishvili declared that the miners’ wage was set in the collective agreement, and there will be room for compromise after the strike will be interrupted.
“We will be generous with the improvement of the compensations for the workers, but these protests, threats and ultimatums expressed through the strike must stop before it happens”, Bedineishvili declared.
The miners, who waited in front of the Prime Ministry and the hotel where the conference was held, declared that they are ready for talks at any moment, and that the ACR Company never attended them.
The requests are complete and basic. We sent the requests to the administrators on January 17th, and since that time, nothing has happened. We are ready to dialogue and write an agreement. We are waiting the Prime Minister to meet us, and if we will not receive any answer, we will start a hunger strike very soon”, declared Kol Nikolla, head of the Syndication Confederation.
The miners asked a wage increase of 20% and improvement of working conditions.
