The amends for the law of blind and paraplegic people have spurred debates among the Parliamentary Commission of Social Works.
Although the schemes have been artificially inflated and no one is punished for the abuse, the Ministry of Labor wants to reduce the benefits of this category of people.
“The abuses are made by the Ministry. Half of the benefit books have not been signed. Everything must be sanctioned by law, because if it will be decided by the Council of Ministers, there could be abuses”, declared Mylbere Prizreni, from the Paraplegic Association.
Among the list of people who benefit payments there are names who do not legally deserve the compensation of the electricity, phone and transportation bills.
“There are 22.000 or 23.000 people like us in Albania, while the list has 120.000 people. And now the government, not the law, will decided how much will I be paid”, declared the chairman of the Albanian Association of the Blind, Sinan Tafaj.
The Ombudsman that is following this case declares that the amends do not justify the benefits.
The Socialist MPs declared that they will not vote these draft-laws.
Some days ago, the Disabled People appealed PM Berisha to interfere for resolving the stalemate created with the Ministry of Labor, as regards the electricity and transportation benefits.
