There are two companies that have requested the concession of the Nation’s Road, the highway that connects Albania with Kosovo.
The Ministry of Transportation closed the applications, while the evaluation will continue in the days to come.
The bidders are “Vendeka-Bilgi” and “Catalys and Salillari”. This is not the first time that the government attempts to give the maintenance of this road with concession. Even the past government failed because bids weren’t satisfying.
The concession will be given for 30 years, with 5 EUR per every vehicle that will cross the 60 kilometers of the Milot-Morina segment.
The Ministry of Transportation says that the cost of the maintenance for this road is 8 million EUR each year, and the concession is the best formula for not making it a burden for the tax payer.
The winning company must invest at least 45 million EUR, 15 of which for the construction of a new bridge on the Drin River. Other investments foresee the infrastructure from Kukes to Morina and general maintenance plus road signs.
The concessionary is guaranteed of having 4000 vehicles each day in both directions. If this is not fulfilled, the government will have to pay it.
