Payment for public services has turned into a heavy burden for many Albanian families, putting one third of the population in serious financial hardship.
According to a study conducted by the European Commission, 34% of the Albanian families have difficulties to pay water and electricity. This burden is the highest figure in the region. In Serbia it is 21%, in Kosovo 20%, in Macedonia, Bosnia and Montenegro, it’s 14% to 16%.
Four years ago the government raised the electricity bills for most of the Albanian consumers. From January 1st of this year, the Energy Regulation Entity has raised water price with 40%.
Besides this, there are other fees such property and schools, putting more than 250,000 Albanian families in difficulty.
