32-year-old dies while detained by the police “for verification” in Tirana

Lear Kurti passed away on Wednesday evening after being escorted by the police to police commissariat no. 3 in Tirana for verification, while standing in front of a private business.

The 32-year-old man, on Wednesday evening around 11:00 p.m., was walking on “Riza Čuka” street, when a patrol of police station No. 3 asked him to stop, but he did not obey and ran away, according to the authorities.

After running for about 200 meters, the young man was caught by the police patrol on “Don Bosco” street, where they stood on the street for a few minutes, until the police vehicle that took him to the police station arrived. While the 32-year-old was handcuffed in the street for 7 minutes two friends of the victim were there as witnesses.

The Police Supervision Agency and the Tirana Prosecutor’s Office say that during the ride to the police station, the detainee developed a health problem, which forced the police to send him to the trauma hospital, where he arrived without signs of life.

Top Channel has contacted Victie’s stepfather, who blames the police for the loss of Lear’s life, saying that he did not suffer from any illness.

After the death was confirmed, the body was taken to the morgue to perform the autopsy and forensic analyses. From the examination of the body, no signs of violence or damage were found except for the marks on the wrists caused by the handcuffs, the authorities say.
