A young man arrested for cultivating cannabis died suddenly today after suffering a heart attack in the prison cell of “Jordan Misja” detention centre in Tirana.
31-year-old Artan Zyliftari, according to the Directorate of Prisons, died as a result of cardiac arrest.
“The General Directorate of Prisons, announces that on 28.10.2023, around 16.20 in the Central Resuscitation of QSUT hospital, citizen Artan Luan Zyliftari, born on 17.04.1992, resident in Skrapar, died after a cardiac arrest,” the authorities announced.
They added that this afternoon the security officer on duty was informed by the other detainees about the health concerns of the citizen Zyliftari. The health staff immediately appeared on duty and tried to give him first aid in the nursing facilities.
The man was then accompanied to the QSUT hospital, but despite the intervention of the specialized staff, the patient died of cardiac arrest.
The officials added that the deceased, during his stay at the Jordan Misja Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions, was regularly checked and treated for hypertension according to approved protocols, and his health condition was stable.
The cause of the prisoner’s heart attack is not yet known, but the General Directorate of Prisons expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased.
