3000 hens were blocked for several days at the Qafe Thana border
checkpoints. The National Food Inspectorate did not allow the passage of
the truck with hens bought in Macedonia, which were scarce.
The load had our country as destination, but after crossing the Macedonian border, they have been stopped at the border checkpoint until the animals’ elimination. But the elimination was much more macabre, by burying the birds alive, a few meters from the border checkpoint.
The importer says that he has faced difficulties in his job, due to an order released in 2005 for not importing hen that have been selected as scarce.
The authorities that undertook the elimination advised other importers to avoid such loads.
