Central Election Commission finished the reassessment of contested votes
for 26 Voting Centers, based on an appeal from the Democratic Party.
The truth is that when these ballots were contested by counting groups, the respective Zonal Election Commissions (ZEC) have immediately reassessed them once.
But the Democratic Party has had majority of commissioners for only half of the ZECs. This is why they doubted that in cases when ballots have not been unanimously assessed, they are entitled, with the force of the majority, to raise doubts that these ballots were wrongly assessed by ZECs.
Besides these 26 voting centers, the Democratic Party has asked to reassess the 117 other voting centers where miscast ballots were found.
Democratic Party lawyers claimed that at that moment, CEC did not do a reassessment, but only recounted ballots that were not counted before.
What procedure will CEC follow to reassess the contested ballots in these 117 boxes?
Two are the options: they will take for granted the valuation given by CEC itself, two days ago, or will reopen the boxes and will count the physical ballots one by one.
From miscast ballots, Lulzim Basha leaded with 81 votes. After opening the 26 other boxes, this difference went down to 78 votes.
The contested ballots in these 26 boxes had different problems, like voters putting other signs on the paper instead of a cross or a plus.
In the meeting that will be held this Thursday, CEC will continue to discuss this issue, because the appeal of the Democratic Party is attached to the 2 requests made by Socialist Party and the one request of the Pensioners Party.
