25% of the Albanian children live in poverty, which means that they are malnourished , frequently sick, have no access to entertainment and
education.

The latest UNICEF report says that only 4891 ALL per month are spent for each of these children. The situation is worse for 11% of these children who consume 3.7 times less food than the normal children.

“The society should guarantee food, health, education and everything that is needed for a child. The economic assistance is not enough and doesn’t give them the needed access for growing a child with everything they need. I hope that this study will be useful to the Ministry of Labor, and make them improve their conditions”, declared Detlef Palm, UNICEF representative in Albania.

Social experts who have been working with this study have found that the economic assistance is totally insufficient for securing normal food to these children, therefore they proposed the government to review the scheme by adding a package of basic food to the economic assistance.

The children who come from poor families spend 3.9 less for health conditions and 4.8 less for education. These children are more exposed to violence and to dropping school.
