Albania is a country very rich of water sources. However, the Albanians
do not have water in their homes. In different periods of the year,
entire neighborhoods remain without drinking water supply, while the
247 running water in the homes of everyone still remains a dream for
most of the Albanians.

According to “Shqip” newspaper, a government strategy for developing the national network of aqueducts and canalizations explains the fact that a country rich of water sources has no running water in houses.

The government report says that 23 of the aqueduct water is stolen and only 13 is paid.

The aqueducts have excessive workers that do not do anything. They cannot collect the bills and there’s a big deficit covered by the taxpayers’ money.

Less than half of the consumers have water meters, while the rest pays a fixed sum, no matter how much water they use. The report also says that the water sources for the aqueducts are three times higher than the consumption, but Albania doesn’t have a national network in some areas of the country, such as in Durres, where the water demand is lower than the supplying capacity.

Only two aqueducts in Albania, Librazhd and Korcha offer running water for 247. The average for the rest of the country is 11 hours a day.
