While a great number of Albanians decided to go abroad for their
holidays, the number of foreigners who have chosen Albania as their
vacation destination has increased with 16%.
The number of people who have visited Albania from January 1st to August 31st of this year was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Aldo Bumci. The Ministry data indicate that in the first 8 months of the year, 2.99 million people visited Albania. 2.12 million of them are foreigners and 870.000 others are non resident Albanians.
The biggest number of visitors came from Kosovo, more than 51%, then from Macedonia, Montenegro, Italy, Greece, Germany and US.
The majority have stayed for more than one day in Albania, others were transitory. 50% of the foreign visitors came mainly during July-August.
The challenge of the Ministry is the distribution of the tourism in more areas of the country, mainly mountainous, especially Theth and Valbona that have had a significant increase.
An important objective for the ministry is the exploitation of the cultural tourism.
“The only way for making our country visible is by promoting cultural tourism. We have a long coastline and beautiful mountains. What we have inherited is a cultural heritage, and we must show it to the world”, Bumci declared.
According to the Ministry sources, the revenues from foreigners that have visited the archeological parks and national museums have had an increase of 20%.
