One month before January 21st, the government has granted 970,000 EUR of compensation for the families of the four victims.
This is the second compensation after the one of January 18th, which goes to a total 2 million EUR.
The government says that the obligation for this compensation comes from the Tirana Court, which ruled it as a manslaughter and sentenced the former National Guard Director, Andrea Prendi, to 1 year in prison, and former National Guard soldier, Agim Llupo, to three years in prison.
When in opposition, the Socialists considered the killing of four protesters a state crime and accused former PM Sali Berisha of being responsible, offering 525,000 EUR in compensation for every victim.
However, the uncle of victim Aleks Nika said that justice doesn’t end here because the case is still open at the Strasbourg Court.
On January 21st, during a protest in front of the Prime Minister’s office, four people were killed by the National Guard: Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj and Hekuran Deda.
