More than 1700 troops from Albania, USA, Great Britain, Italy, Kosovo
and Montenegro are holding a 10-day joint training called “Joint
Effort”.
“We have been NATO members for the past seven years, but this is the first time that we engage in such a huge training”, said Jeronim Bazo, General Chief of the Armed Forces.
For the Minister of Defense, Mimi Kodheli, the training is about various threats that the Alliance might face today.
The training in Biza, Martanesh, was watched closely by the US Commander in Europe, Ben Hodges.
“The Albanian army is progressing but there is still much to do. We must know that nothing comes free, and Albania must increase its army investments. Albania has promised a 2% of the GDP for the army. As for Kosovo, their NATO accession is a political decision”, Hodges declared.
The “Joint Effort” training is expectd to certify the Second Infantry Battalion, which is one of the constant NATO requests for the Albanian Armed Forces.
