The use and distribution of drugs has become a disturbing phenomenon in the country as many young people have fallen into drug addiction, while some are used by criminal groups as distributors.
From January to August, in various operations, the police announced that they arrested over 1,000 people for drug offenses.
In several operations against drug distribution, mainly in the capital Tirana, the police noticed that the distributors targeted areas near schools and those frequented by young people, exploiting their naivety to turn them into addicts.
This academic year, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Education drafted the schools security package where the security perimeter will extend 50 meters around the schools.
Regarding people who sell drugs, 2 legal initiatives are being discussed, as Interior Minister Taulant Balla said that the possibility of changes in the criminal code to increase the punishment will be seen, while also a draft law is being prepared for amnesty that benefits the convicted or those under investigation for distribution of small doses of drugs.
