Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Hundreds of thousands of hectares of forests have been burned and cut by
people. The recovery has a very high cost. The experts calculate that
the cost for one hectare goes from 1500 to 3500 USD, depending on the
terrain and the saplings.
The regional Development Fund of the Region has given for this year a total of 122 million ALL which will be used for the forestation of 5000 hectares of forests in the Macuk, Rrukaj, Cakran, Fierze, Mollas, Dajc and Fushe-Arrez communes.
“A fund of 122 million ALL was approved for the forestation of different areas with forest trees. The fund will help the forestation of 5000 hectares”, explained Hasan Cani, specialist at the Forest Department of the Environment Ministry.
While the state owned seed plots have been closed and destroyed after the fall of communism, the Turkish government in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment have started teh implementation of a project for opening a new one in Elbasan, the cost of which is 900.000 USD.
“We have negotiated for the construction of a seed plot in Elbasan, so that we can help with the recovery of these areas that need forest trees”, Cani declared.
3400 hectares were burned lust year, while the forestation period starts in November 1st and ends by the end of March.
