1 090 olive trees burned, arsonists arrested

Three people were arrested in Tepelenë and Vlorë for arson. Meanwhile, is officially reported that have been burned 1090 olive trees and over 670 fruit trees, and a large area of pine trees.
In Tepelenë has been arrested on charges of arson the citizen Mehmet Keqaj, born in 1959, resident of the village Koshtan, Tepelenë. He has set fire to the pasture in order to regenerate the grass and the strong wind spread the fire in an area with trees.
As a consequence, 950 olive trees, planted only three years ago, 350 cherry trees and 320 almond trees, got burnt. Fire has endangered some other parcels with olives, but thanks to the residents’ intervention and that of Tepelena’s, because firefighters could not go for lack of roads, it has become possible to save other parcels with olive and fruit trees.
Vlora Police arrested two men, who were accused of arson with heavy consequences. Tuesday evening was arrested the citizen Isuf Rakip Lumshi, 64, who is accused of burning a parcel with 80 olive trees in the village of Bestrova. Sokol Trifon Janku, aged 33, resident in the village of Poro, municipality of Novosela, was also arrested on Tuesday. He got arrested because he has set fire to some agricultural materials, property of a citizen from the village of Poro.
In Himara, a fire has burned an area with 60 olive trees, in this case the event is considered accidental. There are still fires in the forests of the park of Brozdoveci in Korçë. A grave situation is that of Puka, where some houses are in danger. There are fires in Kukës, Dibër, Shkodër, Elbasan County, Vlora, Gjirokastra and Berat. It is also reported that there are fires even in the area of Kruja.
