President Meta meets US Chief of Staff, Joseph Dunford

The Albanian President, Ilir Meta, had a meeting today with the Chairman of the USA Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joseph Duford.

Meta said that the relations with the USA have a primary and strategic significance, same as the cooperation under NATO against global challenges such as fight against terror, violent extremism and stability.

The President expressed his gratitude for the strong and constant support that the USA has given to the Albanian armed forces in their process of transformation and modernization, especially with the recent aid with special armored transportation vehicles.

President Meta thanked the USA for their support with the security reform; national defense; for increasing operational capacities and training of the Armed Forces; for supporting intelligence institutions, for their determining role in liberating Kosovo, for their commitment in the long-term security and stability of Balkan; and for their critical support during Albania’s NATO accession.

General Dunford thanked President Meta for Albania’s contribution and for joining the USA in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries. He valued Albania’s efforts for raising the level of partnership and strategic coordination with the USA.

Both officials shared their opinions about the new NATO challenges and the importance of collective security. They expressed their commitments to keep working together for successfully facing them in a regional and global level.
