Valdrin Pjetri, the elected candidate of the Socialist Party for Shkoder, accused by the opposition of hiding a drug traffic sentence in Italy 17 years ago, decided to withdraw from accepting his term as Mayor of the biggest city in the north.

“Responsible for the importance of the political image, and determined to continue this legal clarification as a citizen, without becoming a burden to anyone, I decided to withdraw from taking the duty as Mayor of Shkoder”, Pjetri said.

According to him, the crime for what he is being accused is a very banal event which took place when he was a student, and that today is being taken out of context.

“It was a banal thing that happened with my fellow student friends, something for which I had no responsibility. It happened 17 years ago when I was 20 years old. It was taken out of the contest and they built accusations and lynching, going beyond moral boundaries. These slanders have caused deep pain for me and my family, and my focus now will be to continue with the legal process”, the Socialist said.
