US Embassy, strong reaction about opposition’s decision to renounce seats

The US Embassy said through a declaration posted on Facebook that the threats made by the Democratic Party, the Socialist Movement for Integration and other opposition parties, to renounce their seats in Parliament, undermines the basic principles of democracy and sabotage the important progress that Albania has achieved with the rule of law and responsible governing”.
“A healthy democracy requires a functional opposition that operates in a constructive way within the Constitutional institutions. The threats made by the Democratic Party, the Socialist Movement for Integration and other parties, to renounce their Parliamentary terms, are undermining the basic democratic principles and sabotage the important progress that Albania has achieved with the rule of law and responsible governing. The USA appeals all MPs to rise above the political fights, refuse the appeals to abandon their mandates, and defend the ideals and principles that are essential for any solid democracy”, the declaration says.
“If you fail to do your job, you will disappoint the people you have the great privilege to serve”, the US Embassy says.
