German Foreign Minister: “EU is interested about the Balkans. Other power could get involved”

The German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, was in a press release in Berlin with the Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
Maas said that it is very important for political actors to support important reforms, adding that the EU has a great interest on the Western Balkans, because any vacuum from them would be filled by third parties.
“Albania has achieved good results. Your efforts are impressive. We appeal the political actors to support the reforms that are so necessary for the country. You have the support of the German government, an intensification of the relations. Albania is an important partner, an anchor of stability. Enlarging the EU with Western Balkan is in the best interest of the EU, otherwise there will be third parties involved in Balkan”, Maas said.
Minister Bushati said that the next 12 months will be exploited maximally. He thanked Germany for supporting the European path of Albania, and both Ministers discussed about the situation in the region and Albania’s role for its stability.
