Specialists arrived from Kosovo to assist Albanian authorities in the
process of saving a brown bear which had fallen into a trap in the Polis
area, Elbasan.

Fatmir Brazhda, from the Administration of Protected Areas in Elbasan, said that local residents have set traps after having their plantations damaged, or who feel threatened for their lives.

Specialists blame deforestation, which forces wild animals to enter villages looking for food.

“Traps don’t resolve anything. They only cause more damage”, said Sajmir Shehu, Four Pawn coordinator for Albania.

Specialists warned residents that traps were a kind of poaching, which can call for legal punishment.
