SMI leader Kryemadhi on Top Story: “Meta, as responsible as Rama for staying silent”

Monika Kryemadhi, leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration
(SMI), says that Ilir Meta is as responsible as Prime Minister Edi Rama
for closing one eye about the traffic of cannabis.

Ilir Meta, incumbent President of Albania, husband of Monika Kryemadhi, was the leader of SMI and an ally of Edi Rama’s government for the past year. After the last elections, the SP won enough votes to rule alone, without allies, taking SMI automatically in opposition, passing the party’s leadership to his wife, a co-founder of SMI.

Tonight’s guest on Top Story, SMI leader Kryemadhi says that the silence of Ilir Meta makes him as responsible as Edi Rama for staying silent during the past four years they were in power.

“Ilir Meta has his own responsibility. The moment he noticed the cannabis issue, he should have reacted. He is to be blamed the same as Edi Rama, for shutting one eye and staying silent”, Kryemadhi said.

However, Monika Kryemadhi says that Meta’s silence was due to the fact that the Albanian politics was in a delicate moment, about to pass the judiciary reform, a key reform with strong support from international partners as well. Kryemadhi said that by breaking an alliance at that point, would be interpreted as trying to avoid the judiciary reform.

“Edi Rama made a mistake. He said today that Saimir Tahiri is just a bad apple. It is not true. Tahiri has always been his closest collaborator. Rama should have not abandoned Tahiri today after the scandal, because he has defended him as the most successful Minister”, Kryemadhi declared.

According to the SMI leader, this will undermine the entire Vetting Process: “How can I trust Edi Rama about the Vetting Law today?”, she said.
