The Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, said for Top Story that there
is no new construction at the Butrint Park, a topic that has received
much controversy lately.

Kumbaro says that the existing object, built in 1975, has been used for many years as a depot. Due to the increasing number of tourists in this site, there’s the need for service units that would sell refreshments and souvenirs.

But why should private operators take over this process? The Minister answered that they don’t have their institution does not have the competence to offer services other than for restoration, maintenance and archeologists, that’s why they have outsourced the job to professional private companies, so that more than 150.000 visitors (so far for 2017), who walk around the site for around 1 hour, receive other services as well, which are better than the ambulatory, uncontrolled and informal salesmen.

When asked if the new archeological discoveries were 100% exhausted in the site, so that they can built upon the land, the Minister replied that there will be no proper construction, just a wooden platform that will hold the windows and pillars, and a thin wired layer of concrete, all movable at any moment.
