The US Ambassador to Albania, Donald Lu, met with the young people of
Rreshen behind closed doors, but his message was spread around social
networks.

“This is our simple message. Big changes are coming to Albania. You have an important role for the future of your country. You need to ask your leaders to bring change”, Lu declared.

Trusting that Albania will be an EU member in the next decade, the US Ambassador encouraged youth to demand change, and achieve a bigger one that what was experienced by their parents with the NATO accession, visa liberalization, decriminalization and judiciary reform.

“You may tell me that what you want most is education and jobs, things that you see each day from UK, Gremany or the USA. Do you know how you can achieve that? You must demand them. You must demand jobs, as they have them in Germany. You must demand laws against corruption, as they have them in the UK. You must insist for your personal rights, as they have them in the USA. You live in a democracy. If you demand, the government must answer. Or you will bring it down”, Lu declared.

The example given by the ambassador to the youth of Rreshen was about their school books, asking them to make the government accountable.

“Many people, even the opposition, asked for free books for students. This is a small country and not rich, but it is reasonable for the people to ask the government secure them money for books. When the government says they cannot afford it, then you may ask them how they can pay for their luxury cars, foreign trips and beautiful buildings”, Lu declared.

After Rreshen, Ambassador Lu will give other messages in other cities, convinced that the young generation is a better one than the current that is actually ruling Albania towards the European future.
