Selami: “Race for DP leader was unfair, but it had to be done”

The internal elections of the Democratic Party, after the June 25th
elections, showed a reality that seems unchangeable. Lulzim Basha faced a
deep loss with the elections of June 25th, but won the race for leader
of the Democratic Party, with even better results than in 2013.

This victory has decided Basha’s fate for at least four other years. Many think he will rule the party even longer, regardless of the local elections results in 2019, or the central ones in 2021. However, he is receiving harsh critics. There are many questions now from the public opinion regarding what critics really want from him. Not only the ones who refused to run against him this July, but also others who risked everything, like Eduard Selami.

Tonight’s guest on Top Story, Selami underlined that the Democratic Party race was not equal, but it had to be done.

“Despite many cases of manipulations, for which Basha has not said anything yet, for his shame, I wish him good luck and I hope DP wins the next elections. I think that the party must not be boycotted. Critics didn’t serve to themselves or to the Democratic Party. The campaign was unequal and unfair, but I recognize Basha’s legitimacy because that helps my political force”, Selami said.

As for Berisha, who criticized Basha’s list of candidates for MPs, Selami said that he doesn’t believe that the list was done without Berisha’s blessing. “Berisha’s critics were delayed, but fair. I don’t think that Basha’s list didn’t have confirmation from Sali Berisha”, Selami said.

Selami underlined that the Democratic Party is less democratic than when it was founded years ago, but he is proud to be part of this political force.
