On the Day Without Cars, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said that Albania’s capital will have more pedestrian only areas.

The hope to resolve the pollution issue, however, is the increased usage of clean energy vehicles.

“The Mother Theresa Square will turn into another pedestrian area for the city. Another one will be created behind the Education Ministry and inside the former Block”, Veliaj said.

As for transportation, Veliaj says that the revolution can only come through electric vehicles. “There are taxi companies with only electric cars. We will soon test electric buses. All 25 bus operators in Tirana were told that informed that their competition is not against each other, but against the Municipality”, Veliaj said.
