The EU High Representative of Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, met in
New York with the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, and the President
of Serbia, Alexandar Vucic, during the UN Assembly.

Her press office stated that in this meeting they continued discussions about the new period of talks intermediated by the European block, after the other ones held in July and August.

They reviewed the progress achieved with the implementation of the judiciary reform, which is related to courts in Northern Kosovo, which should be implemented by October 17th.

Mogherini greeted the dedication of both leaders for normalizing the difficult relations between Prishtina and Belgrade, underlining once again that their advancement towards integration is closely tied to the progress of dialogue.

Vucic and Thaci agreed for a new phase of talks between both countries which goes beyond technical matters.

The Serbian MP asked for a new internal dialogue in October, for resolving the Kosovo issue. One of the key criteria is the country’s EU accession.

More than two years ago Vucic told the Wall Street Journal that they were reviewing the possibility of having constitutional amends until the end of 2017, when they would remove Kosovo’s definition as part of Serbia.
