EU insists on border demarkation. For Montenegro, there’s no new pact with Kosovo

On his first day as Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj dismissed
the state commission that negotiated the border demarkation with
Montenegro.

Haradinaj was one of the strongest opponents of this pact, saying it was damaging Kosovo. Today, Haradinaj promises to review the agreement.

“There have been mistakes. The border is at Cakorr and Kulla. We are not losing time with this topic, because it will not be an obstacle”, Haradinaj said.

However, the EU demands a quick ratification of the agreement.

“Our stance has not changed. We consider it as very important for the agreement between Kosovo and Montenegro to be ratified. I made this very clear to the Prime Minister. I discussed it with him and these are our expectancies”, said Angelina Eichhorst, Director for Western Balkan and Turkey at the European Foreign Service.

For the Montenegrin side this issue is considered closed with the signed agreement. Podgorica considers the current debates in Prishtina as internal matters of Kosovo.

“The situation about the border will be resolved based on the agreement reached between parties. Despite of what the media have been reporting about the dimissed commission, the agreement is the one that was reached two years ago”, declared Milan Paunovic, Chairman of the Montenegrin Commission for the Border Demarkation with Kosovo.
