Captain of Albanian ship hijacked by Egyptian worker still missing

14 months after the “Celepia 2’ ship was taken hostage by an Egyptian
seaman, there is no official information about the fate of its captain,
Dhimiter Milja.

The silence of government authorities makes fishermen feel abandoned and unsafe.

“What’s worst for us, the hostage taker is still free in Egypt. And then comes the silence of the Albanian government. We are talking about a ship captain, who is recognized by law as a state figure. We are talking about the Albanian flag being taken hostage together with the ship. Our government should have minimally send a protest note and indemnify the family. The stolen ship also should be returned. It is still in Egypt”, said Ahmet Haxhi, owner of a shipping vessel.

Although what happened has not changed the relations with other foreign citizens who live and work in Durres, their first weeks were difficult for them.

Ali Muhammed Mansur comes from the port city of Rashid, Egypt. He has worked since when he was 12. There are many other Egyptian workers in Durres and Shengjin.
