German press is having a close look to the debate that was caused in
Serbia and Kosovo by the essay published by Alexandar Vucic this July.

The President wanted to change the mentality regarding the Kosovo and Serbia relations. The theories of the Serbian Foreign Minister, Ivica Dacic, are also object of reflection.

This time, the President of Kosovo, Hashm Thace, published on “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” an article which is entitled “Last Train for Stable Peace”.

Thaci notes that after six years of negotiations, there has really been progress between Kosovo and Serbia, especially as regards the agreement of 2013, based on normalizing the relations. “But we didn’t fully normalize the relations”, Thaci says, reminding that these successes reached so far are partial, but important. “But if we continue with this pace”, he adds, “our relations will not be normal even after 100 years”.

Thaci sees the main problem at the fact that both parties still see each other as opponents.

“We cannot reach an agreement about the future if we have basic divisions about the past”, Thaci wrotes.

He says that the only way to overcome this disagreement is to sign a historic agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, which includes bilateral recognition.

“This requires courageous and intelligent leadership. I am convinced that the leadership in both Kosovo and Serbia aims to give citizens what they expect, peace with each other. For this to take place we need to be creative and ready to reach other compromises”, Thaci writes.
