One of the symbolic education institutions of Tirana, the “Kosova” school, is being rebuilt from its foundations.

The Tirana Municipality opened today the foundations for the new building, which will be four times bigger than the original one, which was burned down so that the terrain could be used for an apartment building.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that the school will be ready in September 2018, adding that he is happy that this symbolic school, which was burned down to become a business profit, was being turned back to the citizens.

As a former student of this school, Veliaj said he is even happier that it is being rebuilt with a higher capacity, but preserving the same education quality as before.

“This is the fourth new school that we are building, and I am happy that today’s children will have a school four times bigger in size. Years ago it was just one store, and now it will have four, and also an elevator, offering access to students with special abilities. It will have an auditorium with 125 seats, for the community, a modern gym and several labs. It will have the same quality and reputation that the old ‘Kosova’ school used to offer”, Veliaj said.

Veliaj said that 16 other schools will be built in Tirana, in a cooperation with private operators, bringing to an end the overload of students in school, which has forced them to teach with two shifts so far.
