The Albanian Justice Minister, Gazemdt Bardhi, raise alarms that in his
institution are missing 300 tracking bracelets for electronic
supervision of people sentenced with probation.

Bardhi said that his ministry has received 300 bracelets in March, together with their SIM cards with a total value of 2 million EUR.

The equipment was sent for administration to the electronic supervision room at the General Directory of Probation. But, according to the Minister, the procedure was not based on the laws.

On April 11th, the Probation has sent 300 bracelets to the union of operators. The latter, after being asked by Minister Bardhi to turn them back, replied by saying that the contract for selling them was implemented immediately and that the Justice Ministry has received them. They also said that Bardhi’s request was abusive, to put under pressure the cooperation of operators, for corruptive purposes.

Despite this, Minister Bardhi states that there are 300 bracelets missing from his institution with a total value of 2 million EUR. Documents show that these equipments are being administered illegally by the union of operators and not by the Ministry of Justice that bought them. For this reason, Bardhi said that he will address the Prosecution for any case.
