The National Inspectorate for Territorial Defense started an operation
for demolishing expropriated buildings in Dhermi, a five-store hotel and
a commercial building.

The demolition is done based on a regulatory plan for the territory. The Inspectorate agents were assisted by Special Police forces, in order to avoid possible conflicts.

The builders demanded a copy of the decision, although the buildings were emptied two days ago.

Official Athens, same as they have done in the past, reacted through the Foreign Ministry just before the demolition in Dhermi.

Greece reminds that the right of minorities is tied directly with the protection of their assets, and that is one of the first conditions for Albania’s EU accession.

“Unfortunately, avoiding the rule of law, Albanian authorities started demolishing tourist properties that belong to the Greek minority, before the Court gives a final decision on the mater.

For Greece, this confirms that Albania has not understood the requests of the EU Council of Ministers. The Greek Foreign Ministry reminds that they support the European perspective of Western Balkan, including Albania, but a condition for this progress is the application of European standards for the Rule of Law.
