Greece officially against stone tiles used on Tirana’s main “Skenderbej Square”

The Greek Foreign Ministry reacted against the new Tirana square project, which they consider an “irredentism project”.

“We are against the tiles coming from the Greek area of Filat”, the declaration says.

“These stone tiles compose what is symbolized as the unification of Albanain lands. It is a clear government decision which cultivates irredentism. This is another challenge from the Albanian government, which undermines good neighboring relations”, says the declaration of the Greek Foreign Ministry.

“This proves the support of tendencies against Albania’s neighbors, since the names are specifically from several Balkan countries. The Greek Foreign Ministry is doing everything possible, by informing our friends, partners and international organizations. We didn’t send any public notification in order to respect Albania’s electoral process, which could have been interpreted as meddling with the elections. But this doesn’t mean that the Greek government will tolerate behaviors which go against the European spirit of cooperation. This violates the good neighboring relations, which are one of the main conditions of Tirana’s European course”, the declaration adds.

“Unfortunately, such dangerous stances undermine the prosperity of the region and create a barrier to the European future of Albania”, the Greek Ministry concludes.
