International Organization of Immigration sets up refugee camp in Gjirokaster

The International Organization of Migration is establishing a refugee
camp in Gjirokaster for foreign immigrants. The camp can accommodate 60
temporary refugees who may come from Greece.

It is still unknown if this will be a closed center, administered by the police. This is an early project of IOM, since the mass immigration coming from the Middle East towards Europe.

Although there is no official data yet, the camp may serve to foreign clandestine who cross Albania illegally as they travel to other countries. 700 were counted in total during 2016, most of which were returned to Greece. 150 have crossed within the first months of this year.
